We’ve worked with school boards from coast to coast to build a straightforward two week pre-opening checklist that keeps classrooms and common areas ready without last minute scrambling. Why the two weeks before opening day matter most
A school building sits mostly empty all summer, but that doesn’t mean it’s read to reopen. Dust settles, chemical inventory drifts out of date, and equipment that hasn’t run in months needs a check before it’s back in daily use. Building in two full weeks gives custodial teams room to do the deep work properly and still have a buffer for anything that may go wrong.
Week 2 before opening day: Deep cleaning and inventory prep
This is the heavy-lift week. The goal is to get ahead of anything that takes real time or drying/curing time.

Week 1 before opening: High-touch disinfection and final systems check
With the deep cleaning done, week on is about the details students and staff will actually touch on day one.
- Disinfect all high-touch surfaces: desks, door handles, lockers, light switches. Use your registered disinfectant per label dwell time. Use our Biodegradable Disinfectant or RTU Disinfectant to obtain the best clean.
- Verify dilution equipment is calibrated and working: A dilution control system only helps if it’s actually dispensing at the right ration. Test it before staff rely on it for the first big clean of the year.
