Project Clean x Dispersa: A New Kind of Clean is Coming

There’s a question that has followed the commercial cleaning industry for years: can natural products actually perform?

Not “good enough with some trade-offs.” Not “suitable for lighter applications.” Actually perform – on grease cut, soil removal, surface compatibility, and dilution efficiency – across everything a demanding facility throws at it.

It’s a fair question and for a long time, the cleaning industry fave facility managers reason to be skeptical. The perception stuck: natural means compromise. Project Clean has been working to change that story. This launch takes it further.

On July 7, we’re launching our new Natural line, a collection commercial cleaning products built on a genuinely different chemistry, powered by a first of its kind ingredients and formulated to meet the performance standards your facility can’t compromise on. Here’s what you need to know before the launch.

Meet Dispersa and the ingredient that makes this different

Simply put, Dispersa is a Canadian Cleanteck company that turns food waste into high performance cleaning ingredients – ones that help products clean effectively while reducing reliance on petroleum and palm based chemicals.

The active ingredients is PuraSurfTM, a biosurfactant produced through Dispersa’s BioEternaTM  process. Surfactants are what do the actual cleaning work; they lift dirt, grease and soils from surfaces and allow water to do its job. Most conventional cleaning products source these surfactants from petroleum or palm oil. PuraSurfTM, is made differently through a biological process that converts recovered food waste into those same active cleaning ingredients.
Dispersa biosurfactant ingredients derived from food waste for natural commercial cleaning products
Canada wants over 35.5 million tonnes of food annually, representing over $100 billion in lost economic value. Dispersa’s model recovers ethically sourced local food waste and turn it into something useful. The cleaning agent in our products doesn’t start from a refinery, it starts from what gets thrown away. That’s circular by design, not just by claim.
For our customers, the practical benefits are straightforward:
  • effective grease and soil removal
  • biodegradable formulations
  • reduced dependence on palm oil and petroleum-derived ingredients

The goal is simple, cleaning performance comparable to (and better than) traditional products, with a more sustainable supply chain behind it.

Our decision to build with PuraSurfTM came down to one standard; it had to perform. Our ‘naturally better tomorrow’ ethos means nothing if the product doesn’t do its job. So before any launch conversation happened, our formulation team put it to the test.

Built to perform better and here’s the proof

Before we launched we tested. And the results back up everything we set out to do.

One area where the Natural line stands out is degreasing at moderate pH ranges. Traditional bio based formulations have historically struggled here, plant-derived surfactants tend to lose efficiency at neutral to mild pH, which is precisely the range where many institutional and industrial cleaning tasks happen. With PuraSurfTM, our formulations cut grease effectively in that range, changing what customers can expect from a natural cleaner.

Streak-free cleaning is another area where we outperform. Conventional products built on ethoxylated alcohols (still among the most widely used surfactants in commercial cleaning) leave residue that shows on hard surfaces under certain lighting conditions. Our Natural line formulations consistently beat them on streak-free results, which matters in any environment where surface appearance is part of the cleanliness standard: healthcare, hospitality, food processing, education and more.

Across the full test range (soil removal, surface compatibility, dilution efficiency, foam profile) our new products performed at or above the conventional benchmark. Not close. At or above.

And because our formulations contain inherently less harmful chemistry; no 1,4-dioxane, no ethoxylated surfactants, the performance story and the safety point in the same direction.

No Synthetic dyes. No artificial fragrance.

Across our Natural line, we’ve removed synthetic dyes wherever possible. No artificial colourants. Where a product benefits from fragrance, we use essential oils, nothing synthetic.

This is a deliberate formulation choice. Synthetic dyes and artificial fragrances add chemical load without adding cleaning performance. Removing them simplifies the ingredient story for the facilities, procurement teams, and certification bodies that are increasingly scrutinizing what goes into cleaning programs.

For regulated environments (healthcare, food service, government facilities) a shorter, cleaner ingredient list isn’t just a preference; it’s becoming an expectation.

2.5x concentrated – The operational upside

Here’s where the launch story becomes a procurement story.

Our Natural concentrates are approximately 2.5 times more concentrated than conventional cleaning products. Two jugs of Project Clean Natural equals four jugs of a conventional equivalent. That changes the math in every direction.

Less product to store. Fewer deliveries. Less packaging going to the waste stream. For large facilities managing chemical inventory across multiple areas or sites, the storage and logistics savings are real. And because the packaging that does exist is made from recycled plastic, the container itself reflects the same commitment as what’s inside it.

Up to 99% of our product’s carbon is bio based. Competitive on price per diluted litre. A sustainable story your procurement team can document and your stakeholders can see. For operations managers fielding pressure from both budget owners and ESG commitments, this is a case where both arguments move in the same direction.

What’s launching on July 7

Our Natural line serves facilities across a wide range of sectors. The formulations are built to the compliance standards each sector requires, and the full product lineup covers the cleaning tasks your operation runs every day.

We’re integrating Dispersa technology into select product formulations to Strat, with plans to expand as customer demand and product performance develop. This is the beginning of a broader shift in how we formulate, not a one off product line.

More details, product specs and a full press release will be available on July 7. In the meantime, if you’re a current customer and want to be amongst the first to get your hands on the Natural line, reach out to your rep or customer service. If you’re new to Project Clean this is a good time to get introduced.

Natural chemistry that performs. A Canadian manufacturer you already know. A new line that makes both arguments at once.
